The Matrix

“What is real. How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. This is the world that you know. The world as it was at the end of the twentieth century. It exists now only as part of a neural-interactive simulation that we call the Matrix. You've been living in a dream world, Neo. This is the world as it exists today.... Welcome to the Desert of the Real. We have only bits and pieces of information but what we know for certain is that at some point in the early twenty-first century all of mankind was united in celebration. We marveled at our own magnificence as we gave birth to AI.” - One of the most influential paragraph I have ever listened to.

It says, humans developed Artificial Intelligence and introduced into machine. These machines then took over the control of everything n started using humans as source of power supply. Well, the theory goes well. What I couldn't accept was only the starting part. Artificial Intelligence is nothing but capability of machines to write new codes on its own by processing various inputs n operate accordingly. We can accept the fact that machines could rage war on us and developed matrix as well but why did they do that?

Where did the basic instinct of survival and growth come from? As we have known, machines are always made for a purpose. Why did they want survive if the purpose was served or if unserved, what could have been the objective defined? This is where general human tendencies compel me not to accept it. We are known to never disclose all the cards at same time! Why will we give some undefined objective to AI?

Now there is another question, what is the objective defined for us by God when he gave us birth? I really can't answer it. Even we are born with just nothing in our 1.5Kg muscle called brain. (Is it actually a muscle? dunno, who cares!). We learn everything from our experience. We gain knowledge, learn to perform actions n everything on our own. Next question, then what is the difference between a humans n machines? Even a machine with AI will know how to gain knowledge n learn from things around. Then again, isn't the instinct of survival, growth, reasoning the major difference? We have been gifted with the emotions n love, also cursed with greed of power n lust.

Next question, why would a machine want to rage war and defeat us? This is where the story lacks reasoning. there can be the answer that they learnt it from human behavior. I feel, machines will always know HOW to do it but they will never know WHY to do it. They will have their basic definitions stored. These will be the guidelines for them. They would have been given by humans only. Again, niraj argues, they can change their basic definitons as well but same thing goes here as well. They might know how to do it, not why to do it.

N Niraj strikes at his best here, he says, agreed. They cant even learn this from humans because we, humans, have never known to change our basic thoughts and ways we act. Our actions are binded by the unwritten rules of society n our own perceptions. We have never been able to change them. Rigidity has been one of the most prominent features of human nature in general. We never try to analyze our basic nature but are always ready to write a Ph.D. thesis on any damn person's nature! We have our own ideas about life n our own desires. We hardly give a thought, how rational our motives behind the 'greater good' as we think it is, are.How will the machines learn from us how to change purpose of existence? They never can.
A surprising question struck me here, why don't machines fight within themselves or destroy each other for more power? If they learnt things from humans, they should have learnt even this. This takes me to earlier question, we cant make AI born with greed of power. AI will never be able to answer certain WHYs, which will mark the difference between The CREATOR and the inventor.

If you wonder why Matrix amazes me so much, just try to answer this last question. Why do you think you are not living in a matrix?

Bitter Chocolate, not all that bitter....

Finally, after all the battles i fought with my my brain to get the proposal of writing a blog through, after all those blank hours which i spent thinking of what to write ( n more importantly why to write), after all those broken promises i had made to myself (read my laziness), i am writing this article.
While thinking of what to start the blog with, i had to think a name for the blog. After spending a day to get the name, why not write about it? So, i start with all my analytical skills to explain the name Bitter Chocolate...

First thought that came in my mind was, its about the bitterness lying behind the sugar coated truth in front of our eyes. I never wanted to discuss national issues or morality here. All I wanted to write about is the things which affect us in day-to-day lives. The incident which provoked me goes like this-

I call airtel customer care and ask for some plan details. The girl gives me the details and i hang up the phone. After a couple of hours, its 1.30 a.m. She calls me back. She apologized for giving me wrong information and corrected it.
She said, " Good night n sweet dreams sir".
I casually replied, "Same to you".
She Replied, "We cant see dreams here, its not allowed in our world, n above all, i won't even get to sleep". She smiles n hangs up the call.

I dunno why but it did affect me. She wanted to say something through her carefully chosen words. I will never know the meaning. I feel like expressing such things through my blog.
There are many small small things going around us which we conveniently ignore. On my first thoughts i wanted to make this blog as a medium to express the anger and bitterness against... I stopped at this point, I coudn't get the answer, against WHOM?

On second thoughts, I realize its not all that bitter i wanna express. Its about expressing emotions, incidents, lives n smiles. Its about everything that goes around. Now I think of Bitter Chocolate, i realize, i have never felt it to be bitter. It tastes awesome. Its just delicious. It gives the feeling of hidden passion, beauty of darkness, fun n most importantly, fact that it never tastes all that bitter as it actually is. Its just because we look at it as chocolate. (Try having it with eyes and nose closed, U will realize the difference!) . As I ponder more over this name, it reveals more n more mysteries. I always had this question, why do I like bitter chocolate more than any other forms of chocolate? I m still confused. But i can associate it more with versatility n fun lovingness. Oh god! I have been too serious it seems. Its not always like that. But i m just loving this name analysis thing (n few say, "whats in a name?"). N now its time for India-Newzealand T20 world cup match. (Extended time to the team to get some place in my heart because of that awesome indo-pak match!) So i m off.

Do keep visiting (hopefully, i keep updating it). N leave comments.
